SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES:
Most of us have heard the saying, “You cannot lead someone where you have not been.” Before you can help others grow in discipleship, you first have to develop discipline in your own life. The nine disciplines of our apprenticeship will help you become the leader you aspire to be.
CHALLENGES:
Jesus gave the disciples practical tasks to do while they followed him. This caused them to grow and be fruitful. If they had not stepped out of their comfort zones, they would have never come home rejoicing at the miracles that God accomplished through them. Each trimester, you’ll have a variety of challenges to choose from to help you become bold in your faith and develop the nine disciplines:
- Visit a person at the hospital and pray for them.
- Develop a budget for your finances.
- Write a press release for the media on behalf of your church.
- Organize a short retreat with your church staff.
- Exercise 12x per month and eat a healthy meal.
- Complete a 5-day silence and solitude retreat.
EVALUATIONS:
Proverbs 15:32 says “Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.” Your Supervisor is there not only to support you, but also provide valuable insight into your growth process. The evaluations in our 3x3 Apprenticeship between you and your Supervisor will allow for times of teaching, encouragement, and direction. The most effective spiritual leaders are the ones who are humble enough to recognize growth is always ahead of them.
